Colorado Hiking Trails

Colorado hiking trails offer diversity as well as beauty in this state that has over 300 hiking trails that range from easy to difficult. There are Colorado hiking trails that can take several days as well as those that can take a couple of hours. In Breckenridge, Colorado, there are over 40 different hiking trails. One of them is the Abyss Lake Trail which is one of the most difficult in the state. It takes you through the rockies and high slopes and is not for beginners. The 17 mile hiking trail will take one to two days, depending on how fast you climb and the state you are in. Because the terrain is so rough, it can take longer to cover the trail which is 17 miles round trip.

Other Breckinridge Colorado hiking trails will take a shorter amount of time to cover a greater distance. You can take two days to complete the 33 mile Brookside McCurdy Trail, which is also a difficult trail that takes you through the middle of Lost Creek Wilderness.

If you are looking for a shorter hiking trip that is easier, you can take the 8 mile French Pass Trail which will only take you a few hours and is ranked to be easy to intermediate.

Although Breckenridge has an abundant amount of hiking trails, the area of the state that has the most is the San Juan Mountains when it comes to Colorado hiking trails. There are over 63 trails, most of them intermediate or difficult. On of the most difficult is the Burnt Timber Trail, although this is also the most colorful if you go in August as the meadows are filled with wildflowers.

Crater Lake Trail is an 11 mile trek that will take you five or six hours to complete and is considered difficult but worth the journey. You can take your pick from any of the 63 different mountainous Colorado hiking trails located in the San Juan Mountain region of the state.

There are Colorado hiking trails located throughout Colorado. Most of them involve some sort of climbing as the state is covered with the mountainous terrain of the rocky mountains. But if you are looking for natural beauty as well as challenging hiking, you will not find anything better than the Colorado hiking trails.

Take proper precautions before embarking on a hike. Always carry an emergency shelter with you when hiking in Colorado in case you end up spending the night. The mountains can get very cold and an emergency shelter that can pack into your backpack can shield you from the cold. You should also be sure that someone knows where you are and when you are expected back. If you hike at one of the national parks, there are rangers that patrol the area, but you should always be sure that you have emergency provisions as well as a way to contact help through a two way radio, in case you run into trouble. Explore the Colorado hiking trails safely and have a good time.
