Arizona Hiking Trails

You can find hiking trails throughout the entire state of Arizona, most notably near the Grand Canyon. In fact, some of the best hiking trails in Arizona are located in the Grand Canyon, which falls in the northwest part of the state. You can find many hiking trails that are scenic in the canyon, although very few people, until they actually see the Grand Canyon for themselves, actually understand how big this area is.

Flagstaff has a variety of hiking trails where you can enjoy the beauty of this part of the country. Flagstaff is centrally located in the state and is close to Grand Canyon Village.

If you decide to head further south into the state you may enjoy the hiking trails located in Phoenix. Phoenix has hiking trails that range from difficult to easy and some for the whole family to try.

Another area in the state where you might enjoy hiking is Tucson. Tucson is located at the far southeastern part of the state of Arizona and is close to Tombstone, one of the more historical areas of the state. If you enjoy hiking, Arizona hiking trails have something for everyone.

The hiking trails in Arizona combine natural beauty with natural history as well. Arizona tends to be very dry and hot so you will want to make sure that you dress appropriately for the weather as well as bring plenty of water with you during your hikes. If you are hiking in a desert area, always make sure that someone knows where you are located and where you expect to arrive in case something happens. You should bring along a first aid kit as well as survival gear when you are hiking on Arizona trails as parts of the country can be very desolate.

There are a good many Indian reservations located in Arizona as well, and many of them have hiking trails. However, you should be sure to respect customs and property when you are using hiking trails in Arizona Indian reservations.

From the top of the state and the beautiful Grand Canyon to the far southeast area of Tombstone, Arizona has something for just about everyone when it comes to hiking trails. If you enjoy hiking, you should definitely try hiking in Arizona.

When preparing to hit the hiking trails in Arizona, take a look at the various trails in the different areas discussed in this article, and if you are traveling with children, make sure that the ones you choose are age appropriate. Never take on more than you can handle and be sure to bring a hiking emergency kit with you with supplies like extra food and water in case you end up getting stranded. In some areas, you will not have cell phone coverage so it is good to have flares or a two way radio in case it gets close to nightfall and you end up getting lost. Be sure to stay on the trails and wear hiking boots, as snakes rarely bite above the ankles. It is very important to be prepared before embarking on your hike, which will ensure a more enjoyable hike, and help you make the most of all that Arizona hiking trails have to offer.
